BIG BEN

When my husband Gardy proposed in London, all signs pointed towards YES!

Ever since I was a little girl I was drawn to Big Ben and I still remember the first time this magnificent clock tower entered my awareness.

It was when my older sister, Amy, visited us in Ohio and introduced me to a band called The Beautiful South. One of my favorite songs off their debut album started with the lyrics,

“It’s 6am and even Big Ben is trying to get his head down for a kip. But no sooner is it down and it’s on with dressing gown, while this city very rarely loses grip.”

“From Under The Covers” (Welcome To The Beautiful South)

As a child I was mostly exposed to Motown music, the Four Seasons, the Beach Boys or the occasional pop record, so I became instantaneously enamored by this 90s rock band because of their unique sound, provocative story-telling and English accents.

Their cassette tape played on repeat for years to come.

In the spring of 2015, Gardy planned a dreamy vacation for the two of us to visit Europe with London being our first stop, followed by Paris than Barcelona.

Once we settled into our mod hotel in Shoreditch, London, we ventured over to Lambeth for some sightseeing where we were met with the London Eye, a captivating street choir and some merchants.

Eventually we stumbled upon a public restroom and as I entered to use the facility I was greeted by a sign on the door that said it was “engaged.”

You likely get this reference if you live or have journeyed to Europe, but I had never encountered this before and since a small part of me was anticipating a marriage proposal along this trip —  I smirked and my heart began to flutter.

“Could this really be it?” I thought to myself in disbelief, “and Universe, are you seriously using ‘the loo’ to deliver a sign to me right now?” ?

Shortly thereafter we walked along the River Thames and my eyes lit up with excitement when I realized the impressive view of Big Ben. Together we observed this London fixture in amazement seizing the opportunity to capture a few photos… Gardy completely unaware of my preceding fascination.

That’s when it happened. Gardy kneeled and asked for my hand in marriage.

During the proposal I could sense a crowd form around us but I only had eyes for him in that moment. We were transported into a portal of pure bliss.

After coming down from this phenomenal high my intuition urged me to Google the historic landmark and I discovered Big Ben was actually completed in the year 1859 on my birthday, May 31, of all days.

It still makes me giddy to recount this story.

All things really do work together and without exception Source is communicating with all of us, all we need to do is be open to receiving the signs.
