It’s no secret we adore Moana, and in today’s post, we reveal 3 hidden spiritual references found in this beloved animated picture. 

✻ Fortune Sticks ✻ In this monumental scene before Moana sings “How Far I’ll Go,” she is torn between her intuitive calling to venture beyond the reef and her father’s limiting belief to stay on the island. She seeks guidance from her spiritual team by throwing fortune sticks on the ground, a divination tool practiced across the globe by shamans and healers including many Polynesian, African and Chinese cultures. The energetic messages are translated according to the markings on the sticks and how they land, similar to reading oracle or tarot cards.

✻ Cave of Brahma ✻  Here Moana is encouraged, metaphorically, by her grandmother to “go inside” the cave to discover who she is “meant to be.” Upon her quest she receives a vision affirming her calling to journey across the ocean. In spirituality, caves often symbolize the heart (going within) and the third eye (vision quests). Quieting the mind creates a secret passageway, much like a cave, to the inner knowledge and guidance of our Higher Self. Establishing this connection is how we access our soul’s purpose and activate the embodiment of our divine service.

You will board my boat, sail across the sea, and restore the heart of Te Fiti.” “I Am” is a spiritual reference signifying God (I Am that I Am), and repeating “I Am” affirmations can help reprogram our subconscious belief patterns to the very core of our being. Our beliefs shape our reality, so practicing daily positive affirmations can help us consciously manifest and become deliberate co-creators with Source energy.
